Primary Schools Get Going Get Rowing

Cork Sports Partnership and Rowing Ireland have teamed up to roll out a Cork Primary School Get Going…Get Rowing Programme. The schools programme will run across a limited number of Cork primary schools between October 2017 and May 2018.

The aim of the programme is to introduce 5th and 6th class primary school children to the Sport of Rowing in a supportive environment. In return for full commitment to the programme, each school will receive 5 structured coaching sessions by a Rowing Ireland certified Community Coach.

In addition, participants will receive free use of Rowing Ireland Ergometer machines (located in Cork Boat Club or The National Rowing centre) and FREE Entry to the inaugral Cork Schools Get Going...Get Rowing #BlitzIt event which will take place in 24th November in Neptune Stadium.

Schools will also be encouraged to try an “On the water” rowing session for one of these programme sessions.

This programme will cost €10 per participant (€2 per week for five weeks) and is heavily subsidised by Rowing Ireland and Cork Sports Partnership. This will be payable upon acceptance to the programme.

About Get Going... Get Rowing:

Get Going ... Get Rowing is an initiative by Rowing Ireland under the Women in Sport Programme to develop and encourage young people in schools and beyond to try indoor rowing. An interactive programme has been developed by Rowing Ireland specifically for teachers and their students to encourage kids to try indoor rowing and benefit from the obvious health and well-being that comes with rowing.

How to Register:

Schools are invited to register for the programme throughout the school year. However, as places are limited each school year, school will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. See steps involved in the registration process below.

Steps involved in the Application Process

Step 1: School registers 5th & 6th classes to participate in the Get Going…Get Rowing Programme by completing the programme registration form with Cork Sports Partnership.

Step 2: Registration will be acknowledged by Cork Sports Partnership.

Step 3: Successful schools will be contacted by Cork Sports Partnership to confirm acceptance on to the programme and invoiced to take part. Unsuccessful schools will be placed on a waiting list for future phases of the programme.

Step 4: Following receipt of payment, Rowing Ireland (Get Going…Get Rowing) will contact all successful schools to arrange a suitable start date for the school at one of the designated Cork Centres (National Rowing Centre Farran or Cork Boat Club, Blackrock).

Step 5: A Get Going…Get Rowing Community coach will deliver the programme as agreed with school.

Step 6: Schools will be invited to take part in #Blitzit Cork in Neptune Stadium 24th November 2017. In the event that a large number of schools are located in the same area of Cork, an alternative venue/blitz day may be arranged to minimise travel.

Step 7: Schools will be encouraged and invited to send participants to All Ireland #Blitzit in Trinity College Dublin October 2018 in addition to #Blitzit “Splash & Dash” on the Water in Hannover Quay Dublin in May 2018.
