Cork Sports Basketball Programme

The Cork Sports Basketball Programme was established in 2010 to increase participation in Basketball across Cork. The Programme was developed by the Cork Sports Partnership and the Cork Men's and Women's Basketball Boards to create additional participation opportunities for children to participate in Basketball throughout Cork.
There are a number of strands to the Programme which will see the opportunities for children of all ages and abilities to play Basketball in a supportive fun environment increase.
- Cispheil Na mBunscoil
- U9 Girls & Boys participation games
- Sunday Coaches and Player Camps
The Cork Sports Partnership has supported the Programme which will see a unified approach between the Basketball Boards of Cork and the Sports Partnership toward developing the game of Basketball in Cork. The programme has been designed to cater for children of all abilities in a fun and supportive environment.
Cispheil Na mBunscoil
The aim of Cispheil na Mbunscoil is to introduce Basketball to schools of various sizes throughout Cork. The idea is to afford all schools and children additional opportunities to participate in Basketball in an organised Fun environment.
Cispheil na Mbunscoil usually takes place in February. If your school would like to take part in Cispheil na Mbunscoil please contact George Meade on 087-6368643.
U9 Girls & Boys participation games
The overall aim of the participation games is to introduce and organise non-competitive Basketball for 6-9 year old boys and girls at club and school level. The project focuses on creating a positive and fun environment that young children can thrive and develop their Basketball skills in. The games are aimed at fun and participation, where each child regardless of ability can develop at his or her own pace. No scores are kept which helps to reinforce the non competitive ethos the games revolve around.
Sunday Coach and Player Camps
The Sunday coaches and players camp focuses on educating the coaches involved with the clubs as well as giving players additional opportunities to practice and develop their skills. The camp provides inexperienced coaches from different clubs an opportunity to work with a senior Basketball coach and a group of young players to learn how to teach and develop new drills/skills with a group of children from the area. The coach and players can take the skills and how to teach them back to their respective communities for the benefit of their area.
