Bike Week 2011

The Cork Sports Partnership is delighted to again provide support for Cork Bike Week.

Cork Bike Week 2011 will take place throughout the City and County from 18 to 26 June. Cork Bike Week is a division of the National Bike Week initiative and is organised by a multi agency group comprised of The Cork Local Sports Partnership, Cork City and County Councils, Cork Cycling Campaign and the Cork Environmental Forum.

There will be five main events taking place during Bike Week 2011:

  • Sunday 19th June, 11am: Fun Family Cycle from Carrigaline to Crosshaven – a safe and scenic cycleway on old railway line. Meet at Kilnagleary Car Park (signposted on the day).
  • Wednesday 22nd June, 1pm: Lunchtime Cycle in City Centre Meet at Albert Quay House, Albert Quay.
  • Thursday 23rd June, 7pm- 9pm: History Cycle around the oldest part of Cork city. Meet at Grand Parade/South Mall junction. After the cycle come and see some cycle films.
  • Friday 24th June: Big Bike Ride 2011 in aid of Down Syndrome Ireland. Six Cork County Council Engineers will cycle to every Town Council and Area Office in the County to raise awareness of Downs Syndrome Ireland, the Tour de Munster Charity Cycle and cycling generally within the Council. They’ll be collectively covering over 600km in one day in their “Big Bike Ride 2011”. Colleagues are encouraged to get on their bikes and join them for a short section after each stop so all are welcome! (Contact Catherine.Sheridan@CorkCoCo.ie)
  • Sunday 26th June, 11am: Family Cycle Family Cycle from Passage West to Blackrock Castle – a safe and scenic cycle along the shore of Loughmahon and on to the castle for refreshments, entertainment and bike workshops. Meet in Passage West amenity park (signposted on the day).

Throughout the week there will also be various activities in local schools and communities, as well as discounts offered to cyclists at shopping centres.
