Cork Camogie Sports Programme

The Cork Sports Camogie Programme was established in November 2009 by theCork Sports Partnership, Cumann Camogaiochta na nGael, and the Cork County Camogie Board.The Programme's focus is increasing participation in Camogie in Cork, by increasing opportunities for girl's to participate in a fun supportive environment.
Cork Sports Camogie Programme:
There are a number of strands to the Cork Sports Camogie Programme.
- Club Development Programme
- Mum and Me / Come Hurl with Me
- Go Games
- New Club Start up
1. Club Development Programme
10 clubs received support from the Sports Partnership for the implementation of a coaching and club development programme aimed at increasing participation and strengthening the clubs in 2010. The programme, delivered by Cumann Camogaiochta na nGael targeted clubs in Cork City and County in need of assistance with the support of the Sports Partnership and the Cork County Camogie Board.
Benefits of the Club Development Programme includes:
- Equipment packs for the delivery of the programme
- Foundation level coaching course for the clubs
- Code of Ethics, Active Leadership etc
- Support, advice and assistance from the Cork Sports Partnership, Camogie Development Officers and the Cork County Camogie Board in club development.
2. Mum and Me /Come Hurl with me
The Mum and Me programme focuses on increasing the involvement of parents helping out with underage coaching and to provide each participant with the proper coaching information and technique to coach the basic skills required to play the game.
Benefits of the Mum and Me Programme:
- 6 x Mum and Me Programmes
- Equipment
- Tutor support
- Increased volunteerism
- Promotion of family culture in Camogie
3. Go Games
To put in place a structured games programme for the U8's and U10's at club level in Cork which allows girls to play and learn the game of Camogie in a fun, safe and enjoyable environment.
Benefits of the Go Games Programme:
- There will be a uniform approach across county Cork in promoting GO GAMES and clear and consistent guidelines on rules, pitch rotation etc.
- Camogie Clubs will have a clear timetable of blitzes for the summer months which is helpful both to parents and volunteers in terms of planning.
- The focus is on maximum participation and skill development which will help maximise the enjoyment of camogie for children
- All parents and coaches familiarise themselves with the GO Games rules and ethos.
4. New Club Start up
- To establish 3 new camogie clubs in Cork in 2011
- Create opportunities from girls in each selected area to participate in the Game of Camogie in a fun and supportive environment.
- Increase the number girls participating in our game. Approx 130
Benefits of the New Club Start up Programme:

Increased number of girls participating in Camogie.
- Increased health benefits from physical activity.
- Social interaction and integration from a young age.
- Fun supportive environment for girls to make friends and play.
- Opportunity to participate in Camogie.
- Increased number of volunteers and access to volunteers to support and foster the community nature that Camogie instils in parishes and clubs.
