Sports Ability Day a success despite the weather
Monday 05 July 2010
The Cork Sports Partnership hosted its annual Ability Day last Saturday 10th July, in an attempt to encourage those with a disability to join new clubs and try new sports. Despite the dreadful weather there was a great turn out by show casers and on-lookers alike. On the day there were demonstrations of wheelchair karate, wheelchair rugby, table tennis, hand cycles and integrated dance.
The show casers were represented by the FAI, Surf-2-Heal, Irish Guide Dogs, Arthritis Ireland, and many more, along with all the sporting clubs mentioned above. Luckily the weather didn’t dampen the spirits of all those on the day as everyone was too preoccupied with watching and participating in the activities. James O’ Shea fromBBC's “Dancing on Wheels” fame was the special guest who preformed an integrated dance with his partner.
In summary the day was a success and the Cork Sports Partnership would like especially to thank all the volunteers and show casers who made the day possible. The Sports Ability Day is an annual event and will occur next year. This is just one of the many events and activities the Cork Sports Partnership supports, the next event being Cork Walking Month open to those who are visually impaired, and the An Post Cycle Series, open to those on hand cycles.
