First Charleville Walk/Jog/Run evening

Charleville Walk/Jog/Run Group

Great start made by groups

Over 20 people attended the first night of the group walks, jogs and runs at the Town Park at 6:30p.m. on Monday night. This will be our regular time and place for meeting every week for the foreseeable future if any new members would like to come and join this friendly group (free of charge!). There were 3 main groups into which the participants divided up into according to their ability or the speed which they wanted to go. The largest group was the walking group which headed off first from the Town Park. They covered approximately 3 miles to the railway station and back and were very happy with their first journey out together. The pace of the walk was nice and relaxed and manageable for all who attended. So this is a great group to join if you want to start off doing a bit of light exercise with a nice friendly group of people. It was great to have such a good atmosphere on the first night of the group and to see people getting to know each other.

Two levels of ability; Walk-to-Run and Running

The rest of the group who wanted to challenge their fitness levels a bit more decided to warm-up around the Town Park for two laps and gauge their relative level of abilities A very satisfied group of walkers after their first excursion as a group on Monday evening at the Town Park Charleville. The group meets every Monday at 6:30p.m. New members welcome.before dividing up into two different groups. The Walk-to-Run group decided to walk for a specific period of time and then just jog for a short period, alternating as they went along. As the weeks progress, hopefully everyone in this group will be able to progress on to doing longer stints of jogging with less walking. The soft surface around the Town Park was very welcome and the laps are a useful measure for people to gauge their fitness progression over time. This group were very happy with their achievement and it was great to see all the members of the group planning out how they will progress together.
The second group was made up of people with experience in participating in running races and they covered a good 5 miles around the town together. It was thought safer to stick to the footpaths around the town for the first evening. In future as the groups become more established, they can get more adventurous with their routes.

Looking to the future

Not to get too ahead of ourselves but if there is adequate interest, we will look to meeting on Wednesdays and Fridays and perhaps depart from other locations. This will be discussed next week and the week after. Group co-ordinator, Michael Herlihy can be contacted on 086 3168954 for anyone who is interested in joining the group and maybe would like a different time or location. If there is enough interest then, groups can be facilitated.
