National Bike Week 10 Minute Cycle Challenge
Wednesday 26 May 2010
10 Minute Cycle Challenge - Cycle for 10 minutes to be in with a chance to win!
As part of the ongoing events surrounding this year's Bike Week (www.bikeweek.ie), we are delighted to invite your organisation to participate in the National Bike Week 10 Minute Cycle Challenge, which will run from Monday 14th to Friday 18th of June 2010.
The Challenge is a fun, free workplace event, for both experienced and new cyclists.
How does it work?
Teams of 3-6 cyclists will earn a point for every 10+ minute journey they make by bike, with trips to work qualifying for an extra point.
Give your team a name, appoint a Team Captain and then log onto www.cyclechallenge.ie to register. Every participant must register for themselves and log their own journeys.
Every team must include a ‘new-cyclist’ (someone who hasn’t cycled for the past six months) – there is no minimum number of trips new-cyclists must make for this challenge, but every trip counts!
Fantastic prizes are kindly sponsored by Trek (Centro Ireland) and include bicycles for every member of the winning team, with a ‘Best Workplace’, ‘Best New-Cyclist’ and other spot prizes also up for grabs.
Get involved!
If you would like your organisation to get involved in the challenge, please contact Dirk at cyclechallenge@bikeweek.ie as soon as possible, so that he can add your company to the Journey Logger. Once that's done, you and your colleagues can register.
You can download a PDF of the challenge poster here - http://www.nationaltransport.ie/bike_week_poster.pdf
Note that there will be no collection of cash or materials for the 10 Minute Cycle Challenge, as the challenge will be handled online.
Coordinators will just need to launch and publicise the challenge internally and direct colleagues to the challenge website, where they can register, log trips and direct queries.
Ideas for promotion:
- Posters in Cycle Parking/ changing areas
- Sign up desk at reception or in your company canteen
- Poster on company intranet/ newsletter/ lifts/ toilet cubicles
- Ask HR for details of everyone who purchased a bike through the Cycle To Work scheme & contact them inviting them to participate
- Invite people who are short a team member or individuals looking for a team to ‘match up’ by contacting you (if you can facilitate matching, that will make it much easier for teams to get set up!).
