Midleton and District Sports Open Day
Last Saturday, 26th June, was the 2nd annual Sports Open Day held by Cork Sports Partnership at St.Colemans Community College Midleton. The event was attended by over 200 spectators throughout the day along with 30 sports exhibitors.
The aim of the event was to provide the people of Midleton and its surrounding areas the opportunity to meet up with local clubs and to avail of the chance to take up a new sport, leisure or physical activity. These activities ranged from the GAA, Basketball, Darts and Dancing to the more abstract of Fencing and Muay Thai Kick Boxing.
The day highlighted that Midleton and its surrounding district has a lot of activities for the youth. Claire Hurley of Cork Sports Partnership (Event Organiser) was particularly pleased with the event as attendance was greater than last year. She explained the “The goal of the Cork Sports Partnership is to try and encourage physical activity to a wide varity of people, we support all sorts of events from big to small, just in the coming weeks we will be supporting the Cork City Sports in CIT, Sports Ability Day, An Post Cycle Series and Cork Walking Month in September, and of course we sponsor and attend the smaller events like the one today”.
The event its self saw the live demonstrating of disco dancing, fencing and basketball. Feedback from exhibitors and attendees was extremely positive and this can be attributed to the strong volunteer and club presence on the day.
