The An Post Rebel Tour 2011

Saturday September 10th

The 10km Rebel Pedal:

This route is all about family fun and participation. This year the 10km family fun cycle will encompass a leisurely circuit of Cork City starting from the Grand Parade at 1pm and will finish at the Cork Institute of Technology. We are encouraging cycling enthusiasts of all ages to take part and get on your bike for this fun filled cycle. Registration for this event will take place on the day from 12 noon.

The 50km Rebel Cruise

The Rebel Cruise sets off at 12.15pm from the Cork Institute of Technology in Bishopstown, head out through Bishopstown towards the Bandon road roundabouts where the route will veer off left on to the N71 towards West Cork. Continuing west towards the roundabout at Halfway, veering left onto the R607 towards Kinsale. Taking a turn at Farranarouga Norththe tour will travelas far as Five Mile Bridge. Left turn to Ballinhassig where the riders will then join the N71 and return to CIT via Bishopstown.

The 80km Rebel Rider:

The Rebel Rider sets off at 10:30am from the Cork Institute of Technology in Bishopstown, head out through Bishopstown towards the Bandon road roundabouts where the route will veer off left on to the N71 towards West Cork. Continuing west to the village of Inishannon the cycle will turn left and follow the road through Balinadee heading for Ballinspittel (Foodstop). The route will then loop around the coastal route of the Old Head taking in the spectacular surroundings of Garretstown and Kinsale before heading back towards Bishopstown, finishing in CIT, where cyclists can cool down, relax and enjoy the party atmosphere.

The 150km Rebel Challenge:

The Rebel Challenge will begin at 9am from Cork Institute of Technology in Bishopstown and will continue towards the Bandon Road Roundabout where the route will head along the N71 road into West Cork affectionately known as “Michael Collins Country”. The cycle will pass through Halfway before turning right toward Crossbarry on the R589 and continuing on the back road to Bandon, bypassing the town and proceeding on the R586 through the quaint villages of Enniskean and Ballineen and onto Dunmanway where the route will veer off left toward Clonakilty. After passing through Clonakilty the route will continue on the R600 through Timoleague, Kilbrittan and Ballinspittle along the coast taking in the scenery of Garretstown and the views around the Old Head before coming back in along the harbour town of Kinsale. The route will then join back up on the N71 at Halfway and head back for the City via the Viaduct, and onto Bandon Road roundabout where cyclists will be directed toward the finishing point at the Cork Institute of Technology.
