Active Communities Awards

The Active Cork Community Awards were established by Cork Sports Partnership under its Active Cork Communities Initiative to honour, recognise and celebrate the individuals and groups in our local Cork communities that go above and beyond in their efforts to promote community sport and physical activity opportunities while equally promoting positive health and wellbeing for all.

This is the first year of the awards, which were organised to highlight the important role that community groups, organisations and individuals play in local community health and wellbeing, in addition to the many ways these groups and individuals enhance the quality of life and health of their local community. The last year has been particularly challenging for community groups and individuals alike, we know that people and groups have gone above and beyond to support the most vulnerable in their communities through this pandemic.

Communities have come up with unique and innovative ways to keep people engaged in physical activity and sport, thus supporting them to look after their physical and mental health.

Through the Cork Healthy Ireland fund with the support of local partners and agencies we can now begin to recognise these efforts across the many communities in Cork with our Active Community Awards 2021. This awards scheme is now open and is seeking nominations from groups and individuals, community campaigns and inclusion initiatives.

About the Awards

The Active Community Awards are coordinated by Cork Sports Partnership with the support of the Cork Healthy Ireland Fund and local partners Cork County Council and Cork City Council.

The aim of the Active Community Awards is:

  • To recognise and highlight the contributions, commitments and dedication of volunteer groups and individuals who strive to create local opportunities for people to be active while equally promoting positive health and wellbeing for all.
  • To bring recognition to projects and people for the work they do, that may otherwise go unrecognised.
