Cork Rebel Swim

The Cork Rebel Swim had to take a break from the Cork Sports Partnership calendar due to Covid-19 restrictions. The support programmes and events will return in 2021.

The Cork Rebel Swim last took place on Sunday 17th November 2019 at six Cork Swimming Pools across Cork City and County. Participants had the option to choose from 500m and 1km swim options on the day. All participants received an event goodie bag as part of their entry.

About the Cork Rebel Swim

The Cork Rebel Swim is coordinated by Cork Sports Partnership and is supported by Healthy Ireland, Swim Ireland, Sport Ireland, Cork City Council, Cork County Council, and The Edge Sports Shop.

The aim of the Cork Rebel Swim is to:

  • Encourage people of all abilities to get physically active through swimming.
  • Act as a stepping stone for those participants who are preparing for Swim Ireland – Swim for a Mile challenge.  

The participants of the Cork Rebel Swim sign up to take part in either a timed 500m or 1KM swim.

1. IS THE EVENT FOR COMPETITIVE SWIMMER ONLY?
The event is for anyone who can swim at least 1 length of a 25m pool during a session. The event is not for beginners who require lessons.

2. WHAT AGE DO I HAVE TO BE TO TAKE PART IN THE EVENT?
For this year the event is open to those 13 years and over.

3. WHY WOULD I TAKE PART IN THIS EVENT?
Participants will gained the skill and ability to use the activity as part of a balanced lifestyle and to complete personal goals like the Rebel Swim and other events such as swim for a mile.

4. HOW MANY LENGTHS ARE INVOLVED IN THE SWIM?
500M
25M Pool – 20 Lengths

1KM
25M Pool – 40 Lengths

5. CAN I STOP AND TAKE BREAKS DURING THE SWIM?
Yes, you will be allowed to stop and take breaks throughout the swim but at the wall only. Swimmers will not be permitted to stop mid pool or along the ropes. The clock will continue to run during any breaks.

6. WILL LANE ETIQUETTE BE IN PLACE?
Yes; Lane Etiquette is outlined in the programme documentation and participants should be familiar with it throughout the programme and in the events.

7. WHAT STROKES CAN I SWIM?
You can vary your stroke between frontcrawl and breaststroke throughout the swim, at the start of each length. For health and safety reasons, backstroke or butterfly are NOT allowed

8.WHAT DO I BRING TO THE EVENT OR TRAINING PROGRAMME?
You will need to bring your usual swim wear which you will be comfortable to complete the challenge in. You will also need to bring a water bottle to be sure you are kept hydrated during your swim. We will provide each participant with a goodie-bag which will contain a specially designed hat for you to wear in the event.

9. HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO TAKE PART IN THE EVENT?
The event cost €15 to take part in. There is an early bird option of €10 for those who register early.

10. WHAT DOES IT COST TO TAKE IN THE 8 WEEK TRAINING PROGRAMME?
The cost for the 8 week programme is €70 which also includes event entry.
