Cork Walking Month is an opportunity to celebrate walking by getting involved with a local group or club or participate in some of the many events, workshops and programmes taking place across the month of May for 2022.
Cork Walking Month will take place from May 1st – 31st and is a celebration of all walking activity across Cork. The month-long celebration of walking will take place throughout Cork and encourages people to experience a multitude of walking opportunities in their local area and beyond.

Following a turbulent few years and the ever increasing interest in walking and outdoor activity, Cork Walking Month will make a return and take place throughout the month of May for 2022.
The month-long celebration of walking will take place throughout Cork and cater for people interested in getting more active through walking, getting involved in a programme or attending one of the many walking events scheduled to take place across the month of May.
Cork Sports Partnership along with local and national partners such as the Health Promotion and Improvement Dept of the HSE South and Get Ireland Walking have a vested interested in supporting walking groups, programmes and initiatives in Cork and Cork Walking Month will provide a fantastic focal point for people to experience walking events and activities locally. Most programmes and events are open to beginners and those interested in perhaps trying a walking activity in safe and supportive environment. Pre-Registration is required for most events and can be done via all the booking links on this page.

Active Community Walking Programme The Get Ireland Walking Active Community Walking Programme aims to support the creation of vibrant walking communities throughout Ireland. The programme will work with communities to increase the capacity and potential of people to become more active through walking. The programme places an emphasis on sustainability so members are given the skills to continue coordinating their walking group after our qualified facilitator steps away after 8 weeks. Activator Poles ACTIVATOR poles are an adaptation of Nordic Walking poles and have been developed by Canadian therapists to promote balance and improve mobility. This programme is particularly focused at people with balance concerns or mobility issues. They are suitable for all, including people with; arthritis, an acquired brain injury, or people with Parkinson’s disease. The Cork Sports Partnership in partnership with fitWALK Ireland has trained a number of exercise professionals in Cork to deliver the programme to groups. When: Week beginning the 25th of April or 2nd of May. Various days, times and locations throughout Cork. |
Introduction to Map Reading Skills for Trail Walking This four-week programme will introduce you to the basics of map reading so that you can confidently take part and even lead trail walks in the future. It will take place in Curragh Wood Midleton, Corrin Fermoy, Glensheskin Woods Kilworth and the Canon Sheehan Loop, Glenanair Forrest on Thursday evenings for 4 weeks. This is an opportunity not to be missed!
