In 2022 we celebrated walking in Cork by holding Cork Walking Month. It may have wrapped up for 2022 but we look forward to our annual celebration of walking in 2023!
This celebration is an annual opportunity for us all to celebrate and promote local walking groups or clubs. Hillwalking and Community Walking groups around Cork are invited to host walks and invite the wider community so that we can spread the joy of walking. Each year we run events, workshops and programmes which take place during the festival.
We hope you will be able to join us and help ‘Get Cork Walking’ together at our next Cork Walking Celebration. If you are a member of a walking group or club and would like to get involved please contact Walking Promotion Officer, Alison Chambers at 📩achambers@corksports.ie.
Following a turbulent few years and the ever increasing interest in walking and outdoor activity, Cork Walking Month made a return in May 2022.
The month-long celebration of walking took place throughout Cork and catered for people interested in getting more active through walking, getting involved in a programme or attending one of the many walking events.
Cork Sports Partnership along with local and national partners such as the Health Promotion and Improvement Dept. of the HSE South and Get Ireland Walking are committed to supporting walking groups, programmes and initiatives in Cork, and Cork Walking Month provided a fantastic focal point for people to experience walking events and activities locally. Some of the key activities which took place included:
Most programmes and events were open to beginners and those interested in perhaps trying a walking activity in a safe and supportive environment.
