Primary & Secondary - Get Going Get Rowing

Cork Sports Partnership and Rowing Ireland have teamed up to roll out the Cork Primary & Secondary School Get Going…Get Rowing Programme. The schools programme will run across a limited number of Cork primary & secondary schools throughout the 2019/20 school year.

The aim of the programme is to introduce 5th and 6th Class Primary School Children and 1st & 2nd Year Secondary School Pupils to the Sport of Rowing in a supportive environment. In return for full commitment to the programme, each school will receive structured coaching sessions by a Rowing Ireland certified Community Coach.

In addition, participants will receive free use of Rowing Ireland Ergometer machines (located in Cork Boat Club, Shandon Boat Club or The National Rowing Centre, Farran) and FREE Entry to the Cork Schools Get Going...Get Rowing #BlitzIt event.

This programme now has three options available which is heavily subsidised by Rowing Ireland and Cork Sports Partnership. This will be payable upon acceptance to the programme.

  • Option: Indoor x 4 + Blitz - €10 per pupil

About Get Going... Get Rowing:

Get Going ... Get Rowing is an initiative by Rowing Ireland under the Women in Sport Programme to develop and encourage young people in schools and beyond to try indoor rowing. An interactive programme has been developed by Rowing Ireland specifically for teachers and their students to encourage kids to try indoor rowing and benefit from the obvious health and well-being that comes with rowing.

How to Register:

Schools are invited to register for the programme throughout the school year. However, as places are limited each school year, school will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. See steps involved in the registration process below.

Steps involved in the Application Process

Step 1: School registers 5th & 6th Classes or 1st & 2nd Year Pupils to participate in the Get Going…Get Rowing Programme by completing the programme registration form with Cork Sports Partnership.

Step 2: Registration will be acknowledged by Cork Sports Partnership.

Step 3: Successful schools will be contacted by Cork Sports Partnership to confirm acceptance on to the programme and invoiced to take part. Unsuccessful schools will be placed on a waiting list for future phases of the programme.

Step 4: Following receipt of payment, Rowing Ireland (Get Going…Get Rowing) will contact all successful schools to arrange a suitable start date for the school at one of the designated Cork Centres (located in Cork Boat Club, Shandon Boat Club, Bantry Rowing Club or The National Rowing Centre)

Step 5: A Get Going…Get Rowing Community coach will deliver the programme as agreed with school.

Step 6: Schools will be invited to take part in #Blitzit Cork. In the event that a large number of schools are located in the same area of Cork, an alternative venue/blitz day may be arranged to minimise travel.

Step 7: Schools will be encouraged and invited to send participants to #Blitzit “Splash & Dash” on the Water.
