Go For Life Grant Scheme

This scheme aims to assist in the implementation of locally-developed, well-planned initiatives designed to increase participation in recreational sport and physical activity by older people. Grants are available to all eligible clubs, groups and organisations that promote increased participation in recreational sport or physical activity for older people as a main element of their activiites. 

In particular, the scheme is aimed at:

  • Assisting local clubs/organisations to enhance existing opportunities for their members in recreational sport and physical activity;
  • Assisting local clubs/organisations to initiate new initiatives geared at involving older people in recreational sport and physical activity.

Grants will be allocated towards the cost of the following initatives outlined below:

  • Physical Activity Programmes: Programmes to introduce older people to an activity such as aerobics, aquafit, Tai Chi or tennis, the costs of hall hire and instructor may form part of these overall costs also. 
  • Purchase of equipment/resource materials: Examples: Go for Life Games equipment, pitch and putt set, physical activity kitbag, play parachute, badminton rackets etc. Short Mat Bowling equipment will only be considered for joint applications shared between 2 or more groups.
  • Participation event:  i.e Sportsfest aimed at introducting older adults to a range of recreationl sports or a games league between groups.

Aerobics, Aquafit (aqua aerobics), Tai-Chi, Dance, Tennis, Badminton, Skittles, Walking Fitness, Stretch & Tone, Basic Step Aerobics, Zumba, Pilates, Yoga, Circuits.


Boccia Set, Pitch and Putt set, Physical Activity Kit Bag, Play Parachute, Badminton Rackets, Skittles, Gym  Sticks, Balance Cushions, Dynabands, Soft Frisbee, Ring Toss, Bean Bags, New Age Curling, Skittles Balls, Ten Pin Bowling Sets, Pitchy Balls.
