Primary - Northside Schools Programme


Northside Primary Schools Basketball Programme 2020

Cork Sports Partnership and Basketball Ireland have teamed up to roll out a Northside Primary Schools Basketball Programme this November. The programme will run across a limited number of Northside Primary Schools from November to December 2020.  

The aim of the programme is to introduce 3rd class primary school children to the sport of Basketball in a supportive environment. In return for full commitment to the programme, each school will receive:

  • 3 Coaching Sessions in Neptune Stadium
  • Basketball Resource Pack (Basketballs & Green Shoots Manuals)
  • Whole school Basketball Teacher Training Course

This programme is valued at over €500 per school and is heavily subsidised by the Cork Sports Partnership. The programme will cost each school €50 per class group of 30 to take part in which will be payable upon acceptance to the programme.  

Steps involved in the Application Process 
  • Step 1: School registers their 3rd class to participate in the Northside Primary Schools Basketball Programme by completing the programme registration form. 
  • Step 2: Registration will be acknowledged by Cork Sports Partnership 
  • Step 3: Successful schools will be contacted by Cork Sports Partnership to confirm acceptance on to the programme and invoiced €50 to take part. Unsuccessful schools will be placed on a waiting list for future phases of the programme. 
  • Step 4: Following receipt of payment, the Basketball Development Officer will contact all successful schools to arrange suitable training days in Neptune Stadium. 
  • Step 5: The Basketball coach will deliver the 3 coaching sessions as agreed with school. 
  • Step 6: Cork Sports Partnership will update teachers on the date of the Basketball Teacher Course to be held in Neptune Stadium.
  • Step 7: Teachers continue to deliver basketball activities as part of their curriculum. Basketball Development Officer will support schools to create further pathways for pupils to continue to play.
