Promoting Sport & Physical Activity Among Girls

Cork Sports Partnership is delighted to announce under its Women in Sport Initative the launch of a pilot workshop, " Promoting Sport & Physical Activity Among Girls".

Participating in sport and physical activity provides multiple benefits for physical and mental health, as well as over all wellbeing. However, women and girls have long been an underrepresented group in sport/physical activity and teenage girls in particular take part in sport and physical activity far less than the national average in Ireland. The network of Local Sports Partnerships with the support of Sport Ireland host and facilitate a wide number of programmes and initatives targeting girls and women across a number of sports and activities. There is however an opportunity to  further address this issue of participation by supporting the many people that have the opportunity to influence the lives of these girls and their attitudes towards sport and physical activity.

This workshop seeks to support parents, coaches, teachers and any significant other that may have a role to play in encouraging and promoting participation levels in sport and physical activity. This interactive and informative workshop seeks to cover a number of topics, conversations and ideas that will hopefully encourage and influence participation in sport and physical activity:

  • Benefits of Sport & Physical Activity
  • Research and the Physical Activity Guidelines
  • Ideas & Tips for encouraging participation
  • Reflective Practices to use at home, in school or at your club
  • Supporting Documentation and much more
