As part of Cork Walking Week Cork Sports Partnership has organised a number of training opportunities with local and national partners for those interested in developing their walking skills further. A number of trainings will take place across the week and there is something for everyone. 

Irish Heart Foundation: Walking Leader Training Level 1

General Info: Walking Leader Training is primarily aimed at people wishing to lead a walking group or promote walking in their community or workplace. The course comprises of a weekend of training followed by a 4 walk task to try out your new Walking Leader skills.

Content: Physical activity guidelines for adults and how they relate to walking/The main elements of a health-enhancing walking session/Prescribing walking programmes suitable for people of different fitness levels/Advice on issues such as posture, technique, stretching, intensity, clothing, etc/Safety issues and risk assessment/Planning walking sessions and programmes/How to start your own walking group/Practical walking sessions

Requirements: None, just an interest in walking and potentially setting up a local group in a community or workplace setting.

Mountaineering Ireland: Mountain Skills 1 (Limited to 6 participants)

General Info: This course includes map-reading and simple navigation techniques, recognition of natural features, distance measurement and timing of walks. Mountain hazards are also covered, as is personal equipment such as correct clothing and emergency equipment. 

Requirements: It is highly recommended that you have some previous hillwalking experience prior to starting Mountain Skills (MS) training. There is no minimum age limit to MS training or assessment.

sports first aid- er training sports first aid certification Course

Sports First Aid Training is advisable for anybody who is involved or participates in sport ie coaches, parents, teachers, physical activity leaders etc. The training is friendly and practical based. All training is carried out by Paramedic'sand Doctor's from E.R Training

Team Resuscitation
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation CPR   
Defibrillation
Respiratory Emergencies
Airway Management
Spinal Injuries
Concussion
Fractures, Dislocations
Sprains & Strains
Bleeding
Care of the unconscious patient
Scenario based training

Certification:  ER Training Sports First Aid Certification

Cost: €50 per person (Subsidised rate for trained Walk Leaders for Cork Walking Week 2018)

 

rescue emergency care-level 1 course 

A one-day course [6 hours]. The basic first aid course is designed to introduce a systematic way of first aid for managing casualties. Topic learning and practical’s intermixed with scenarios of real situations. The course includes:

o   The fundamental workings of the body, in particular, the heart, lungs and airway

o   Recognising the difference between the healthy, ill or injured

o   Ability to record the baseline measurements of the vital body functions

o   Introduces a system to cope with all incidents as safely as possible

o   Deciding how to deal with an accident or incident

This course is ideal for people who are confident and skilled in outdoor first aid when working or playing in remote locations where help can take time to arrive. In this instance the course is aimed at walk leaders who regularly bring groups out on walks in remote locations, forrest trials or off road.
