About Men on the Move

 

What is the Men on the Move programme?

Men on the Move (MOM) is a physical activity programme that is aimed at adult men to get them active, have fun and improve fitness levels.

It involves:

  • twice weekly physical activity sessions over 12 weeks that are led by a qualified instructor to meet your needs.
  • structured physical activity sessions so that you can find a level and pace that suits you.
  • workshops on nutrition and well-being for men.

BACKGROUND

Cork Sports Partnership is currently involved in a National Research Evaluation of the Men on the Move Project involving 7 other Sports Partnerships across the country. We are evaluating the Men on the Move Programme so that we can learn how it may be helpful for men. By doing this we hope to be able to continue to deliver this programme to more men, across the country.

Following 12 months of research across the country into the programme, a final report is currently being compiled and will be available shortly in early 2019. Three areas in Cork were invovled in the initial research evaluation, Dunmanway, Inniscarra, and Ballyhea where over 100 men took part in FREE health checks on a regular basis.  Subsequently these 3 areas have since received the 12 week physical activity programme where over 50 men took part in the Autumn 2016.

HEALTH CHECK

At the beginning of the Men on the Move programme a FREE health check takes place. This includes measures such as Blood Pressure, Cholestrol, Fitness, height, and body weight. You will also recieve health information from professionals and a copy of the Men on the Move health information booklet. All health checks will take place in a local community facility.
