Cork Sports Partnership, Tennis Ireland & Vision Sports Ireland will host Blind / Vision Impaired Tennis Come & Try Day.

Short History of Blind Tennis

The idea of Blind Tennis started in 1984. It was born out of Miyoshi Takei’s, a blind student, wish to play tennis with fully ablebodied people. The invention of a special ball that makes a distinct sound when it is hit and bounces, has made tennis for the blind reality. The rules are essentially the same as mainstream tennis except for shorter rackets, smaller courts, more bounces allowed, and that players have to say “Ready?" and “Yes” before they start playing each point. 

Volunteers 

  • If you are interested in becoming a volunteer for this programme you are invited to attend this event on October 7th 
  • You will have the opportunity to learn the rules and meet some participants 
  • Following this event if you are interested in volunteering for a VI/Bind Tennis Programme you will have the opportunity to completing volunteers application & vetting form.
