Short History of Blind Tennis

The idea of Blind Tennis started in 1984. It was born out of Miyoshi Takei’s, a blind student, wish to play tennis with fully ablebodied people. The invention of a special ball that makes a distinct sound when it is hit and bounces, has made tennis for the blind reality. The rules are essentially the same as mainstream tennis except for shorter rackets, smaller courts, more bounces allowed, and that players have to say “Ready?" and “Yes” before they start playing each point.
