Thursday 26 March 2020

Since their launch in 1993, the Coaching Development Programme for Ireland (CPDI) are responsible are training up and certifying over 220,000 people from 60 partner National Governing Bodies. The opportunity is available for you to help the next stage of the CDPI journey.

In line with the changing context for sport, national policy, sector realities and participant expectations and with the view of building on the capacity of the sports and physical activity sector, there is a review underway of the CPDI by Sport Ireland Coaching. This ‘Next Steps’ consultation stage of the review, is an opportunity for the sports and physical activity sector to identify where and how the CDPI, and the sports sector, might best meet the challenges and the opportunities for sports and physical activity in Ireland.

Sport Ireland Coaching have appointed an independent consultant Humphrey Murphy from ILC to undertake this confidential consultation process where the sports sector is the first step of this review.

Sports Ireland are currently seeking coaches, instructors and leaders across all sports to complete the online questionnaire which can be sourced here

A consultation statement that suggests some of the issues for discussion can be located here.

There are three key areas outlined in the executive summary of this document:

  1. the changing context for sport coaching,
  2. the current coaching structure
  3. the practical process of coach training.

This is an excellent  opportunity for you and your sport to identify the existing value of the CDPI and the further needs and expectations of your sport around coaching.

Sport Ireland would like to thank you in advance for your assistance.
