School Update September 2019

Welcome to Cork Sports Partnership's School Update for the beginning of the 2019/20 school year!

We hope you all had a very active summer and are recharged for what lies ahead over this school year. Over the past few months, the Cork Sports team has been busy planning with our collaborating partners to ensure this school year is the biggest and best yet for school sport and physical activity participation in Cork.

The first 6 months of 2019 saw 8,678 children participate in 11 different initiatives supported by Cork Sports Partnership, National Governing Bodies of Sport and your schools. I have included a summary infograph from the 1st half of this year in the update below.

We have a number of new programmes and workshops to support you with providing more physical activity opportunities for children in your schools. CSP has partnered with Gymnastics Ireland to pilot a new GymSTART programme for Cork primary schools. The programme will also include a teacher shadowing process to help refresh lessons plans and build more confidence with delivering gymnastics within the school environment.

CSP is also supporting the Munster Branch of Table Tennis Ireland to host a Teacher Training Award in early October for schools interested in upskilling in the area of Table Tennis. In addition to these new offerings, old reliables such as Cycle Right, Basketball, Athletics, Tug of War, Volleyball, Indoor Rowing & Badminton are still available to schools looking to get active this school year.

Details and links to all of these programmes and more are outlined below.

I look forward to working with you all over the next few months.

Regards,

Maurice O'Sullivan
