Cork Sports Partnership is delighted to announce that the inaugural Cork Sportsability month will take place this September throughout Cork city and county. Building on the success of previous Sportsability events, the month-long celebration will showcase the best opportunities for people with disabilities to get involved in sport and physical activity.

There are over 20 different activities scheduled throughout the month with clubs, groups and organisations coordinating open sessions for all ages and abilities to get involved in as well as a number of FREE flagship taster events scheduled. Check out details below!

Inclusive Splash & Dash

About: Cork Sports Partnership has teamed up with Triathlon Ireland to host an inclusive Splash and Dash in Fermoy Leisure Centre. The event will see participants take part in a short swim and run, walk or roll in Fermoy Town Park. 

Date: Sunday 4th September 

Time: 10 am 

Venue: Fermoy Leisure Centre and adjoining Town Park

Suitable for: Children with disabilities and their siblings.

Cork Watersports Inclusion Day

 

About: The aim of the Cork Watersports Inclusion Day is to showcase inclusive watersports opportunities available to people of all abilities.

This FREE come-and-try event is organised by Cork Sports Partnership in partnership with Kinsale OEC, Cork ETB, Surf 2 Heal Garretstown, Sailing into Wellness, SailAbility Kinsale and Kinsale Yacht Club.

This year’s watersports activities include:

  • Sailing
  • Surfing
  • Kayaking
  • Trips on Saoirse, Inclusion Powerboat!

Date: Saturday 10th September 

Time: Sessions take place from 9:30-4pm

  • Session 1: 9:30-11:00am
  • Session 2: 12:00-1:30pm
  • Session 3: 2:30pm – 4pm

Venue:Main Slipway at Kinsale Pier, Kinsale, Co. Cork

Suitable for: Open to children, young people, adults with additional needs and their families!

Cork SportsAbility Day 

About: Cork SportsAbility Day sponsored by Blackwater Motors is a come & try event aimed at increasing  awareness of sport and physical activity opportunities for people with ​disabilities. 

Over 15 different come and try sessions are confirmed for the event including badminton, table tennis, wheelchair rugby and basketball, scorebowls, cycling and football for all, as well as demonstrations and information stands from different sport and physical activity providers showcasing and highlighting the many opportunities for being active across Cork clubs, groups and organisations.

Date: Saturday 17th September 

Time: 11 am – 2 pm

Venue: Mardyke Arena UCC

Suitable for: Open to people with a disability, families, teachers, sports coaches, health and fitness professionals, youth club leaders or anyone interested in inclusive sport or physical activity for people of all abilities.

Disability Inclusion Training 

About: This workshop is designed to provide attendees with the knowledge, skills and ideas on how to adapt and modify your sport, physical activity or physical education sessions to make them more accessible and inclusive for people with disabilities.

Attendees will be engaged through interactive group work, theory content and will be introduced to adaptation tools which will be applied to a variety of games and activities on how to make these inclusive for all ability groups.

Date: Saturday 24th September 

Time: 10am – 2:30 pm

Venue: Mayfield Sports Complex 

Suitable for: Coaches, Teachers, Parents, Volunteers and anyone with an interest in inclusive sport.

Inclusive Learn to Cycle

About: This Learn to Cycle programme aims to assist participants to learn how to cycle independently in a fun & safe environment. The programme is delivered by a Cycling Ireland Qualified Instructor with experience in working with children and teens with a disability.  

  • 6-week programme:  1 session per week for 6 weeks
  • Each session will be 45 minutes in duration 
  • Approx. 6 participants per group 
  • Parents/guardians must be present during each session 

Date: Cork County:Starting Thursday September 8th (every Thursday thereafter for 6 weeks) in Dunmanway

            Cork City: Starting Wednesday September 28th (every Wednesday thereafter for 5 weeks) in Nemo Rangers 

 

Time:

  • 4-4.45 pm (Ages 6-12)
  • 5-5.45 Teens (Ages 12 – 18)

Venue: County: Dunmanway Community hall

                City: Nemo Rangers GAA complex

Mixed Ability Table Tennis with Beech Hill Table Tennis Club

About: Beech Hill Table Tennis club is inviting people with a disability interested in trying table tennis to attend their open day on Sunday 11th September. 

Date: Sunday 11th September. 

Time: 12:45-3 pm

Venue: Terence Macsweeney Sports Hall, (James Kenneally Sports Centre)
Harbour view road, Hollyhill Lane, Knochnaheeney, Cork T23W880

Suitable for: Anyone with a disability

How To Get Involved:

In addition to above events, CSP will be supporting and promoting community come and try events being hosted by clubs, groups and organisations all across Cork that offer sport and physical activity opportunities for people with a disability.

Details of these sessions are currently being finalised and will be published as part of the larger programme over the coming weeks.
