Active Cork Sport

In this section you will find information on Cork Sports Partnership’s work to increase participation in Sport.

As a leading agency in the coordination of sport for people of all ages and abilities, Cork Sports Partnership works to support, develop & promote participation in sport through collaborative partnerships.

The focus of this work aligns to the core values of Cork Sports Partnership which are Partnership, Collaboration, Facilitation & Inclusion. These core values remain central to all Active Cork Sport projects with supports provided to enable opportunities, increase participation capacity and enhance sustainability of opportunities provided. This can include administrative support, opportunity creation, action planning, marketing and promotion, resources, subsidised training and education.

Strategic Objectives

Active Cork Sport has the following strategic objectives.

1.1 Develop mutually beneficial partnerships with internal Cork Sports Partnership departments, NGB’s, state agencies, disability providers, businesses, local communities and other organisations to support participation in sport.

1.2 Develop a comprehensive and diverse sports programme portfolio with relevant partner organisations to increase participation in sport for all abilities.

1.3 Develop a clear monitoring, reporting and evaluation tool to identify continued improvement in participation opportunities.

Key Active Sport Actions

The following key actions are undertaken to achieve these objectives.

  • Work with key partners and organisations to identify participation needs of key target groups of each sport in Cork.
  • Enable capacity building among partner organisations to improve participation structures in sport throughout Cork.
  • Advocate on behalf of people with a disability and marginalised groups for improved participation opportunities in each sport Cork Sports Partnership is working with.
  • Work with key partners and organisations to coordinate evidence based, best practice sport programmes, events, workshops & initiatives.
  • Develop appropriate education support structures for clubs, coaches and volunteers involved in delivering participation programmes in conjunction with Cork Sports Partnership & partner organisation.
  • Support partner organisations to provide sustainable opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to participate.
  • Work with key partners and organisations to monitor, report and evaluate sports portfolio to ensure continued improvement and innovation across each sport.
