Cork Watersports Inclusion Day

Cork Sports Partnership are delighted to announce the launch of the Inaugural Cork Watersports Inclusion Day in partnership with Kinsale OEC, Cork ETB, Surf 2 Heal Garretstown, Sailing into Wellness, SailAbility Kinsale and Kinsale Yacht Club as part of European Week of Sport.

The aim of the Cork Watersports Inclusion Day is to showcase a range of inclusive watersports opportunities available to people of all abilities. Following the success of Kinsale hosting the Irish Sailing, Watersports Inclusion Games, it was clear that Kinsale as a community have a huge amount to offer and are leaders in providing opportunities for people of all abilities to gain experience and learn new watersports skills.

cork watersports inclusion event Details Include: 

  • Date: Saturday 25th September 
  • Location: Main Slipway at Kinsale Pier, Kinsale, Co. Cork (Location available HERE )
  • Time: Sessions take place from 9:30-4pm 
    • Session 1: 9:30-11:00am  
    • Session 2: 12:00-1:30pm
    • Session 3: 2:30pm - 4pm 
  • Open to Children, Young People, Adults with Additional Needs and their Families!
  • Open to beginners, no experience required. 
  • There is limited capacity on each activity so register now to avoid disappointment!

Kinsale community groups and local providers have a vast amount of experience and expertise in a range of activities and supporting people of all abilities to enjoy worthwhile and meaningful experiences on the water. Activities will be tailored to support the needs and abilities of the families taking part. No past experience is required, beginners are welcome and all necessary equipment will be provided. This event is a watersports opportunity not to be missed! 

watersports Activities include:

Sailing: 

  • Activity description: Try sailing along the beautiful Kinsale Harbour, past James Fort and Charles Fort with opportunities to helm (steer) the boat under direction from your boats captain and crew supporting you and your family along the way. A sailing opportunity not to be missed! 
  • Meeting Point: Kinsale Yacht Club 
  • Capacity: 1 family per ticket 
  • Provider: Sailing Into Wellness & Sail Ability Kinsale

Surfing: 

  • Activity description: Join Surf 2 Heal Garretstown, Surf 2 Heal is Ireland's first surf camp for children and adults with autism. On the day, 1 surfer will be assigned a large, stable surf board and accompanied by 2-3 helpers depending on the ability level. Surfers will go waist deep  into the waves and catch the white wash. They will have the opportunity to catch waves solo or with the support of a volunteer on the board. Wetsuits and booties provided. Family members invited to join in and catch waves too! 
  • Meeting Point: Garretstown Beach 
  • Capacity: 1 participant per ticket, must be aged 6yrs +

Kayaking: 

  • Activity description: Take to the water on a kayak with qualified and experienced instructors at your side. Equipment will be provided and kayaks used will offer a stable and enjoyable paddle. 
  • Meeting Point: Main Slipway at Kinsale Pier
  • ​Capacity: 1 participant per ticket 
  • Provider: Kinsale Outdoor Education Centre

Trips on the Inclusion Powerboat: 

  • Activity description: Saoirse, The Inclusion Powerboat will bring you on a journey along the Kinsale Harbour and show you what the water has to offer, it can reach a top speed of 30 knots / 55 kilometers per hour! Trips will be for one hour duration with adequate time before departing to brief and prepare all family members. 
  • Meeting Point: Main Slipway at Kinsale Pier
  • ​Capacity: 1 family per ticket with maximum 8 family members 
  • Provider: Kinsale Outdoor Education Centre
