Cork Rebel Run

The Cork Rebel Run is an annual running event, established in 2012 to provide adults of all abilities with the opportunity to take part in a supportive 5k and 10k community event in Cork City. 

 

Organised by Cork Sports Partnership, MTU Sports Department/Athletics Club & Leisureworld Cork, the Rebel Run takes place in Bishopstown and provides 2 route options (5km & 10km) for participants. 

 

The Cork Rebel Run is sponsored by Cork County Council and Cork City Council. 

 

Both events start from MTU and finish on the MTU campus, a unique feature of the Cork Rebel Run. The events are open to runners and joggers of all fitness levels, and there are also prizes & spot prizes for different categories on the day.  The Cork Rebel Run is celebrating its 11th year in 2023 and the event will take place on Sunday October 22nd from the MTU Cork Campus, Bishopstown.

For 2023, it is hoped the Rebel Run will bring 1,000 participants to MTU.  Both the 10km & 5km routes are suitable for every type of runner. Starting at Munster Technological University taking in the Curraheen Riverwalk & finishing back on the MTU campus. Each participant receives a goody bag which includes a special edition t-shirt & water bottle as well as other goodies. You can expect lots of encouragement and a fun atmosphere throughout the day.

About the Cork Rebel Run

 

The Cork Rebel Run first took place in October 2012 and has grown to become a popular event on the running calender in Cork ever since. Organised by Cork Sports Partnership, MTU Sports Department/Athletics Club and Leisureworld Cork, the event has grown over the years to now host over 1000 participants annually. The Cork Rebel Run is sponsored by Cork County Council and Cork City Council. 

The addition of the inclusive Rebel Run a Mile programme sponsored by Boston Scientific and a number of community Couch25Ks over the last few years ensures that people of all abilites and fitness levels are part of the Cork Rebel Run events.

Rebel Run Routes

As part of the Rebel Run event there are two options to choose from:

Both events start from the MTU tiered carpark at the rear of the Athletics Track stand and finish on the MTU Campus.

 

Rebel Run 5k Start Time: 9.30am from the bottom tier of the carpark at the rear of the Athletics Track.

Rebel Run 10K Start Time: 9.45am from the 3rd tier of the carpark at the rear of the Athletics Track

How to Register

Registration for the Cork Rebel Run will open Monday August 14th. To ensure a safe and enjoyable return numbers are limited so early registration is advised. Registration will close Monday October 16th.

Registration fees for 2023 are:

 

5k : €15 (+ booking fee)

10k : €20 (+ booking fee).

(As this is a Athletics Ireland affiliated event a €2 charge applies for all non affiliated runners)

Please Note: Additional fees apply should you choose to have your event number & souvenir t-shirt posted in advance.

Registration includes:

  • Event number & timing chip
  • Rebel Run Souvenir T-Shirt for 2023
  • Goody Bag.

Rebel Run Sign in 2023

All pre registered participants MUST SIGN IN in advance of taking part in both 5k & 10k events on Sunday October 22nd. At sign in you will:

  • Confirm attendance at your chosen event
  • Pick up your event number (chip timed)
  • Pick up your goody bag & celebration Souvenir T-Shirt for 2023

Please note: For 2023 there will be NO SIGN IN on the morning of the event (Sunday Oct 22nd) Sign in options for collection or postage of your event number and goody bag will be across the week from October 19th- 21st.  This is a pre-registration only event. 

Sign in for collection of your event number & goody bag will takes place at the MTU Arena, Bishopstown Campus, Cork,  during the following times: 

  1. Thursday 19th & Friday 20th October between 5:30pm & 7:30pm
  2. Saturday October 21st between 10:00am-12:00pm 

Postage Option:

For 2023 there is also an option to have your event number & souvenir t-shirt posted to you. There is however an additional fee of  €5 for this option. You will need to indicate this when registering for your chosen event via Event Master. The last date for postal entries is Sunday October 15th. 

FAQs

  1. What date is the Rebel Run taking place? The Cork Rebel Run will take place on Sunday October 22nd 2023.
  2. What time does the event start? The 5k starts at 9.30am with the 10k starting at 9.45am. The start line for both events is the tiered carpark at the rear of the MTU Athletics Track Stand. 
  3. Where does the event take place? The event starts and finishes at MTU, Rossa Avenue, Bishopstown. The eircode for the Munster Technological University Bishopstown Campus is T12 P928.
  4. Are the 5k & 10k routes on road? The 10k event is mainly on road, quiet county roads for approx. the first 7k. The last 3k covers pedestrianized walkways (Curraheen River Walk) and road before finishing up in MTU. The 5k route is on road for the first 1.5k before entering the Curraheen River Walk for the middle 2k. The last stretch of the 5k is on road before finishing up in MTU. 
  5. How do I register? You can pre register online from Friday September 16th. There is no registrations on the day of the event. Registration will close Wednesday October 19th or as soon as capacity is reached.
  6. What are the registration fees? The entry fees for 2023 are €10 for the 5K and €20 for the 10K. No price tranches/early bird offers are available for the 2023 events. Additional Athletics Ireland €2 fee applies for non affiliated runners. 
  7. Is the event chip timed? Yes, the Rebel Run is chip timed. Sports Timing will be providing the timing for the event and will process race results thereafter. 
  8. Is there a cap on registrations for 2023? In the interest of health and safety there is a limit of 1,000 participants for 2023. 
  9. Do I need to sign in/collect my race number before the event? YES, all pre registered participants are required to collect their race number, event t-shirt and goody bag prior to taking part. For 2023, there will be NO SIGN IN on the morning of the event (Sunday Oct 22nd) Sign in options & collection of your event number and goody bag will be extended across the week from October 17th – 21st (details to follow) Sign in will take place at the MTU Arena, Bishopstown. Sign in times and dates are: 
    • Thursday 19th & Friday 20th October between 5:30pm & 7:30pm
    • Saturday October 21st between 10:00am & 12:00pm
  10.  Is there an age limit for taking part? Yes as per Athletics Ireland guidelines, for a distance of 5K and up to maximum distance of 10K the minimum entry age for Run, Jog, Walk road permitted events is 15 years on the day of the event. All those U18 must have parental permission to take part. 
  11. Are there prizes? Yes, there are category prizes for the 10k event ONLY. Spot prizes will also be distributed across both 5K & 10k. There are no category prizes for the 5k event. This is being promoted as participation event for beginners or those new to jogging/running.   12. Can I register on the day? NO, this is a pre registration only event. No entries will be taken on the day. Registration will close as soon as capacity of 1,000 is reached. 
  13. Can I wear headphones? For health and safety the use of headphones is not permitted for this event.
