Rebel Run Update

The Rebel Run team are working hard behind the scenes in organising this years event.  The Cork Rebel Run will take place on Sunday November 7th 2021. Online registration is currently open, click >>HERE<< 

Organised by Cork Sports Partnership, MTU Sports Department/Athletics Club & Leisureworld Cork, the Rebel Run is a 5K & 10km road race that takes place in Bishopstown.

Both events start from MTU and finish on the athletics track, a unique feature of the Cork Rebel Run. The events are open to runners and joggers of all fitness levels, and there are also prizes & spot prizes for different categories on the day.

About the Cork Rebel Run

 

The Cork Rebel Run first took place in October 2012 and has grown to become a popular event on the running calander in Cork ever since. Organised by Cork Sports Partnership, MTU Sports Department/Athletics Club and Leisureworld Cork, the event has grown over the years to now host over 1000 participants annually.

The addition of the inclusive Rebel Run a Mile programme and a number of community Couch25Ks over the last few years ensures that people of all abilites and fitness levels are part of the Cork Rebel Run events. 

The Cork Rebel Run will take place on Sunday November 7th 2021. Online Registration will open on Friday October 15th at 12pm. To ensure a safe and enjoyable return numbers are limited so early registration is advised.  

Rebel Run Routes

As part of the Rebel Run event there are two options to choose from:

Both events start from the MTU tiered carpark at the rear of the Athletics Track stand and finish on Athletics track. 

 

Rebel Run 5k Start Time: 9.30am from the tiered carpark at the rear of the Athletics Track

Rebel Run 10K Start Time: 9.45am from the tiered carpark at the rear of the Athletics Track

Cork County Council and Cork City Council are event partners for 2021 and are kindly sponsoring the catgory prizes & spot prizes for both this years events. 

How to Register

Registration for the Cork Rebel Run will open Friday October 15th at 12pm. To ensure a safe and enjoyable return numbers are limited so early registration is advised. 

Registration fees for 2021 are:

5k : €15 

10k : €20

Registration includes:

  • Event number & timing chip

FAQs

  1. What date is the Rebel Run taking place? The Cork Rebel Run will take place on Sunday November 7th 2021.
  2. What time does the event start? The 5k starts at 9.30am with the 10k starting at 9.45am. The start line for both events is the tiered carpark at the rear of the MTU Athletics Track Stand. 
  3. Where does the event take place? The event starts and finishes at MTU, Rossa Avenue, Bishopstown. The eircode for the Munster Technological University Bishopstown Campus is T12 P928.
  4. Are the 5k & 10k routes on road? The 10k event is mainly on road, quiet county roads for approx the first 7k. The last 3k covers pedestrainised walkways (Curraheen River Walk) and road before finishing up on the MTU Athletics Track. The 5k route is on road for the first 1.5k before entering the Curaheen River Walk for the middle 2k. The last stretch of the 5k is on road before finishing up on the MTU Athletics Track also. 
  5. How do i register? You can pre regiser online >>HERE<< There is no registrations on the day of the event. 
  6. What are the registration fees? The entry fees for 2021 are €10 for the 5K and €20 for the 10K. No price tranches/early bird offers are available for the 2021 events. 
  7. Is the event chip timed? Yes, the Rebel Run is chip timed. Sports Timing will be providing the timing for the event and will process race results thereafter. 
  8. Is there a cap on registrations for 2021? In the interest of health and safety there is a limit on numbers for 2021, this applies to both 5k & 10K events, so early registration is advised. We will resume full capacity for 2022. 
  9. Do i need to sign in/collect my race number before the event? YES, all pre registered participants are required to collect their race number, event tshirt and goody bag prior to taking part. These will not be posted out. Sign in will take place at the MTU Athletics Track stand, Bishopstown. Sign in times and dates are: 
    • Sat  TBC
    • Friday  TBC
    • Sun TBC
  10.  Is there an age limit for taking part? Yes as per Athletics Ireland guidelines, for a distance of 5K and up to maximum distance of 10K the minimum entry age for Run, Jog, Walk road permitted events is 15 years on the day of the event. All those U18 must have parental permission to take part. 
  11. Are there prizes? Yes, there are category prizes for the 10k event ONLY. Spot prizes will also be distributed across both 5K & 10k. There are no category prizes for the 5k event. This is being promoted as participation event for beginnes or those new to jogging/running. A full list of prizes as sponsored by Cork City Council & Cork County Council is available >>HERE<<
  12. Can i register on the day? NO, this is a pre registration only event. No entries will be taken on the day. 
  13. Can i wear headphones? For health and safety the use of headphones is not permitted for this event.

Volunteers Needed

Would you like to be part of the Cork Rebel Run for 2021?

Volunteers are key personelle that ensure the Rebel Run events run safetly and are enjoyed by those taking part. Each year we require a pool of enthuastic and motivated volunteers to support the organising team in hosting a successful event. Volunteer roles include:

  • Event Stewarding (both 5k & 10k routes)
  • Sign in & Goody Bag distribution
  • General Stewarding (event HQ)
  • Other roles as identified by the organsing team

The Cork Rebel Run takes place on Sunday November 7th. The majority of volunteering duties are required on the day. Please see below current times & days as required:

  • Sign in & Gooby Bag distribution- Friday Nov 5th- 5:00pm – 8:00pm
  • Sign in and Goody Bag disbribution- Sunday Nov 7th- 7:30am – 10:00am
  • General Stewarding (event HQ)- Sunday Nov 7th- 7:30am – 10:00am
  • Event Stewarding (both 5k & 10k)- Sunday Nov 7th- 8:30am – 11:30am
  • Misc- Sunday Nov 7th- 7:30am – 12:00pm
