Women in Rugby With Dolphin RFC

In 2021, recognising that Women’s Rugby is one of the fastest growing Team Sports in the world, Dolphin RFC commenced its Women in Sport Programme. The club based in Musgrave Park, invited girls into their Minis and Underage Sections and set up a Women’s Adult Team.

In less than two years, Women + Girls rugby has taken off in Dolphin RFC, the only club in Cork City with Girls + Women’s rugby playing competitive rugby.

Minis rugby is for boys & girls up to U12, at U12 the Girls can also play in blitz’s against other Girls sides. Dolphin have also U14, U 16 & U18 sides but welcome new members. We had a number of players in the Munster U18 Girls squad in February, one just 15/16 months after taking up the game.

At present Dolphin have a Recruit 23 campaign, aimed at TY students, on an 8 week introduction to rugby programme (non contact) on Wednesday nights 6.30 to 7.30 pm at Musgrave Park.

On the 17th April Dolphin RFC commence their “Give it a Try” programme, an IRFU promotion, run by over 80 clubs, Dolphin RFC are offering girls aged 10-12 & 13-15 a chance to learn how to play rugby in a fun, safe and welcoming environment.

Our Adult team is a mixture of newbies, experienced players and some who would not have played since minis. They are easily the most improved side in Munster this season, from winning just once last season to being Munster League semi-finalists this season.

The Dolphin RFC coaches are finding  it very rewarding to watch players learn new skills and develop into confident rugby players very quickly!
