Rebel Run A Mile Launch 2023

Cork Sports Partnership and Boston Scientific  launched the Rebel Run a Mile this week for Disability Services in MTU Cork. The Challenge which seeks to support adults accessing disability services in Cork, with access to a 6-week training programme to progressively build up their walking, jogging, running or rolling 1-mile at the end of the programme.

Last year, over 500 adults accessing day services across Cork took part in challenge. It is expected that this number will increase for 2023 with new services availing of the opportunity each year. Each participant who registers for the event will receive:

  • A programme booklet
  • Race T-shirt for participants and leaders T-Shirt for staff
  • An opportunity to train with an athletics tutor to prepare for the big race
  • A medal for completion of the programme at the end of the 6 weeks

Speaking at the programme launch, Joe Devlin, Boston Scientific Director of Process Development stated;

Together we are breaking down barriers and creating a path where everyone can conquer the mile challenge. Every step taken is a testament to the power of determination of the participants. It is fantastic to see this event grow exponentially over the years, and we looking forward to continuing our support for the event”.

Cork Sports Partnership, SIDO Cliona Horan also remarked, ‘we are really excited to get this programme underway and have the support of Boston Scientific yet again. This is one of our biggest programmes each year, everyone looks forward to training hard, coming together to complete the mile challenge and receiving their medals. Personally, I love the joy and sense of personal achievement, the Rebel Run A Mile challenge brings to everyone. I look forward to welcoming new and old faces to the event again this year.”

Event Details 

Training Commences: Week of September 4th (for 6 weeks, thereafter).

Culmination Event Date: Week of October 16th
