Clonakilty Community Bike Project School Cycle Bus
Cycle to School Bus Clonakilty, aim is to set up an ON-GOING cycling bus in Clonakilty.

Time:  8:30am

Date:  Friday 17th May 2024

Location: Clonakilty – to Gaelscoil

Suitability: families, children from the Gaelscoil (children from other schools may come but we are focusing on the Gaelscoil), volunteer stewards, Gardai

Bike Week Full Moon Cycle
An unforgettable journey into the night as we cycle from Blackrock Castle out around Mahon strand and back along the Old railway line. Always a most popular and memorable cycle, the journey will be broken by unexpected sensory experiences, which may include music, poetry, performance, light and dark. This event will follow directly from the “Cycle through time” to Blackrock Castle. The Cycle will finish back in the city centre.

Time:  10pm-2am

Suitability: All will be shorter, slower/ involve a lot of off-road route and so be particularly suited to less confident cyclists.

Bike Week Sunset Cycle Through Time
A guided cycle through time. From the formation of the earth, the beginning of life, dinosaurs, etc. to the present day. We will stop at various landmarks in time, learn a little about it, get a feeling of the vastness of time and have some fun on the way.

Time:  7pm-10pm

Location: Meeting point Michael Collins Bike Statue outside the Library on Grand Parade

Suitability: All will be shorter, slower/ involve a lot of off-road route and so be particularly suited to less confident cyclists.

Parks Greenways & Quiteways of Cork City 
The majority of this cycle will be off road and most of the rest on very quiet roads, it will be slow and easy so is particularly suited to those who are less confident cyclists  A Cycle out along the river to the Lee Fields, then along the Greenway behind CIT to Curraheen, though quite estate roads to the Greenway parallel to the N22 between the Bandon Road and Wilton, though quite estate roads and across the Cycle/Pedestrian bridge to Togher cross to join the Greenway Parallel to the N22 into the Tramore Valley Park for t a picnic stop, leave the park via the Greenway Parallel to the N22 to Douglas Village, through the village to the Park on to the Green way to Donnybrook, back through Douglas village to the Green way behind Besskrook to Mahon Strand, past Blackrock Castle and alone the Marine back to the city.

Time:  1:30pm-6pm

Bike Week Bike Doc And Bike Maintenance Intro
How to do a quick bike safety and maintenance check and demonstration of a few basic repairs and adjustments as require by participants. To make it easier for people to begin and continue cycling by enabling them to at least spot potential problems on their bike which would otherwise make cycling difficult and so discourage them from continuing cycling and ideally enable them to solve minor problems themselves.

Time:  12:30pm-1:30pm

Bike Week Morning Collage Making Workshop
A workshop by international renowned collage artist Silvo Servano will guide participants in creating a bike themed collage celebrating cycling and freedom granted by a bike. Materials provided and each participant will have the opportunity to create their own piece of art.

Time:  10am-1pm

Free Bicycle Safety Checks
To get bikes ready for the Clonakilty Bicycle festival & summer season, Come learn about the Bike Circus and what it means to become a member. Have your bike safety checked for free. Meet the Yard Dogz, our friendly crew of volunteers.

Fix Your Brakes Advanced Taster (Disc Type)
An intro session on brakes (disc type, including hydraulic brakes), this will give a better understanding of how these should work. The focus will be on helping you to recognise when there are problems, and this may allow you to fix any issues that come up on your bike. Feel free to bring your bike along, and we may use it for demonstration, and you will have the chance to try out the repair work yourself. We will have materials and tools to work on the bikes used. Bad weather could affect this outdoor event.

Deaf Enterprises Sign & Cycle
Bike Maintenance For Irish Sign Language Users The purpose of this event is to provide essential knowledge and skills for bike maintenance to the Deaf and hard of hearing community, while also welcoming participation from all. Participants will learn how to inspect their bikes for safety and comfort with guidance from mechanics fluent in sign language. By offering this opportunity, attendees can detect and address issues early, leading to savings on repairs. This event is specially catering for the Deaf and hard of hearing, but everyone is welcome to join. Bring your bike along and mechanics from Sign&Cycle will show you how to check a bike to make sure it’s safe and comfortable to cycle. This will help you be more aware as problems develop and save you money on repairs. We will also show some quick repairs based on any problems you find on your bike. Tools will be provided if needed. No problem if you don’t have a bike with you, you can learn from other bikes.

Bike Week Design a t-shirt competition & Bike Sense ‘Cycling for everyone’ workshop x 2/3. To promote cycling as a form of recreation for children & Educate public on bike care and maintenance. Art competition would be promoted thoughout the library branch network, as well as directly to Primary schools in Cork County. The children would be invited to submit a drawing, with a cycling related theme, with the chance that each branch winner would have their design printed on a t-shirt for them to keep & Educate workshop attendees on to how care and maintain their bikes.

Bike fitting for leisure and e-bikes to facilitate comfortable cycling
To allow members of the public who use cycling for leisure and commuting to bring their bike along and have it assessed by myself using my experience in this specialised area.  This will be a service for hybrid bikes, e-bikes and commuter bikes.  I will also be able to answer any questions around bikes and especially painful/discomfort symptoms from cycling.
