Little Athletics – Special Schools

Cork Sports Partnership, Athletics Ireland and MTU Cork are delighted to coordinate Little Athletics, aimed at Special Schools across Cork City and County.

The aim of the Little Athletics programme is to introduce students to athletics in a fun, supportive environment. The 4-week programme will provide students, SNAs & teachers with an introduction to athletic disciplines of running, jumping and throwing.

In return for full commitment to the programme, each school will receive the following:

  • 4-week athletics coach led sessions
  • Athletics Resources Pack valued at €200
  • Teacher Training – Athletics Leader
  • FREE Entry to an Athletics Event / ‘Virtual’ Event with other participating schools

The Little Athletics programme will be held during school time with the day and time flexible to suit your school. It is open for up to 25 students per school ranging in age from 8-12yrs.

AGILITY, BALANCE, CO-ORDINATION
  • The Athletics programme introduces young children to athletics in a fun, engaging and non-competitive environment.
  • It focuses on the use of games to develop fitness whilst enhancing agility, co-ordination and balance – all fundamental to longer term physical athletic development.
  • Children will partake in running, jumping, relays, hurdles, shotput, javelin, discus and more.
